State Police placed four commercial vehicles and five drivers out of service during a two-day enforcement operation on the Taconic State Parkway and across four Hudson Valley counties.

New York State Police conducted a two-day commercial vehicle enforcement detail on the Taconic State Parkway and across four Hudson Valley counties, the agency said in a statement posted to its website on October 2, 2026.

Troopers issued 376 tickets during the operation, according to the state police. Of those violations, 63 were tied to Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulations, the rules that govern interstate trucking safety, hours of service, vehicle maintenance and driver qualifications.

The detail resulted in four commercial vehicles and five drivers being placed out of service, the state police said. An out-of-service order means a vehicle cannot be driven, or a driver cannot operate, until the underlying safety violation is corrected.

State police did not specify in the statement which four Hudson Valley counties were covered beyond identifying the Taconic State Parkway as a focus of the enforcement, nor did it break down the specific violation categories beyond the overall ticket and out-of-service totals.

What it means

Carriers and drivers running routes through the Hudson Valley region, including the Taconic State Parkway corridor, should expect continued state police attention to commercial vehicle compliance. The 63 FMCSA-related violations out of 376 total tickets indicate that a meaningful share of the stops involved federal safety rules rather than just state traffic law, which can affect a carrier's safety rating and CSA (Compliance, Safety, Accountability) scores. Drivers and fleet managers operating in the area should ensure hours-of-service logs, vehicle inspection records and driver qualification files are current before transiting these roads.

What's next

The state police statement did not announce a follow-up detail or set a date for additional enforcement. Carriers should watch the New York State Police website for further announcements on commercial vehicle enforcement activity in the Hudson Valley and monitor whether any of the out-of-service violations lead to broader compliance reviews.
